Michael “The Network” Funaro has been in the sports betting industry since 1986 when he worked for the iconic National Sports Services.
Active since: 1986
Location: Las Vegas, NV
Fresh out of college with degrees in Computer Science and Math, “The Network” (as he would soon be called) coupled his love for sports betting with his math and computer science background.
One of his co-workers, Zig “Ziggy” Fracassi, came up with the nickname, “The Network.” Here are Zig’s own words. “Years ago, Mike and I were affiliated with National Sports Services organization. Mike was part of the crew that put together the stats and relevant sports information. Between his proficiency with that, and his abilities with computers in terms of input and troubleshooting, I came up with the moniker, “The Network.” It seemed to catch on in the workplace. I’m Glad Mike still likes to be referred to as such.” - Zig Fracassi, host/anchor for SiriusXm NFL Radio.
Mike was at the forefront of sports gaming statistics that we all take for granted now with the Internet! Mike was the original developer and programmer of what was then called “Pitcher Fast Facts.” These were a one-line pitcher stat for each game on the MLB board that day. They became a daily feature in the sports section of the Las Vegas Review-Journal starting in 1986. Eventually they would be distributed across the USA and Canada in more than 70 newspapers by the Gannett newspaper chain.
Mike also experimented with the blending of mathematics and sports handicapping. He has developed many algorithms over the years in the NFL and NBA that marries the two together to pick games. Eventually he would go on to win the 2009 Station Casinos NFL Mini-Contest and the Grand Prize of $10,000 using his hybrid computer/experience picks. Today, he uses his 35 years of expertise in the industry as a consultant, web developer and handicapper.
“The Network” is making his picks exclusive to VegasWinners.com and won’t be found anywhere else on the Internet. His picks are a blend of his handicapping experience coupled with his unique computer and math algorithms that he has refined over the last 30 years.
